Päijänne - Source of nature
Each bottle of NORD comes from Lake Päijänne, the second largest lake in Finland of 1,080 km² water area and maximum depth of 93 m. The lake is dotted with forest-covered islands and drained southward to the Gulf of Finland. The lake area is frozen nearly 5 months of the year, thus the bacteria growth in the water is minimal.
Surrounded by sparsely populated untouched nature, the water from the Lake Päijänne is drinkable even before any treatment process. The source of the water is located at 61 degrees 08” latitude north and 25 degrees 28” east longitude, in an area where the latest Ice Age formed numerous pools of sweet water.
Lake Päijänne has the oldest bedrock formations in Europe and there leads the longest continuous bedrock tunnel (120km) in the world to Nord Water's bottling plant. The NORD water experiences natural purifications by oxygen while swiftly flowing along the rocky tunnel. Meanwhile, a constant temperature in the deep tunnel (30 - 100 metres in the bedrock ) ensures that the water quality stays excellent during transit flow to the water treatment facility in Helsinki, where NORD undergoes a light treatment process on its way to the world.
